Smiling faces, indescribable emotions, feeling touched as well as happy, and feeling of accomplishment. All of this could be witnessed at Friday´s graduation ceremonies at the Faculty of Science. Throughout the day, 146 graduates of Bachelor and Master study programs took oath by the macebearer´s scepter.

INTER-COST
On November 1, 2018, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced the third public tender in research, development and innovation of INTER-COST sub-program (LTC19) for project applications of international cooperation in research and development. INTER-ACTION
On November 1, 2018, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced a public tender in research, development and innovation of INTER-ACTION sub-program (VES19IZRAEL) for submission of projects of international bilateral Czech-Israeli cooperation in research and development. Deadline for submitting proposals is January 28, 2019; more information here.

Dean´s Award for authors of prestigious scientific publications 2018
The publication (set of publications) is submitted by the Head of the Department or Director of the Research Center by November 20, to the Science and Research Department to Alena Jarošová.

If more than one author is qualified for a given publication, it must be specified which one is proposed for the Dean's Award. Submitted publications must meet all of the following conditions:

- scientific journal where the paper is published, in a given subject class, according to the Web of Science, is in the 90th percentile or above

- the proposed scientist is an employee of the Faculty of Science with workload of minimum 50 percent, and he / she presents the affiliation of the Faculty of Science as the main workplace.

- the proposed scientist is the first or corresponding author of the publication

- the publication was published in 2018; papers published in 2017 can also be subscribed if they were not entered in the competition in the previous year.

Dean´s Award for Outstanding Teachers 2018
Scientific-Pedagogical Boards of study fields may, through their Chairmen, make proposals for the Dean´s Award for Outstanding teachers. A written proposal together with the justification should be sent to Vice-dean for External Relations doc. RNDr. Karel Hron, Ph.D. by November 20. Compliance with the requirements for granting the award will be assessed by a commission composed of vice-deans, who will also propose the amount of prizes. This proposal shall be submitted to the Dean for approval. Dean's reasoned decision shall be made public.

Dean´s Award may only be received by a staff member of the Faculty with workload of minimum 50 percent, who teaches at least 6 hours per week in summer semester 2017/18 as well as in winter semester 2018/19. The award will be presented to laureates at the end of the year. More information here.

Matriculation
We ask first year students who have not been present at matriculation to come during office hours to the Study department and sign their matriculation promise.

Graduation ceremonies
We ask students who have not participated in graduation ceremonies to come during office hours to the Study department to pick up their diplomas.

Graduation ceremony of Doctoral candidates
Graduation ceremony for graduates of doctoral study programs will take place on November 30, 2018. Students will be informed of the specific time of ceremony during November by their study referent.

Studies at the Institute of Science and Technology in Austria
Graduates of Bachelor and Master studies who are interested in a scientific career in an international research environment may apply for doctoral studies at the Institute of Science and Technology in Austria. IST Austria is a young international institute focused on basic research and postgraduate education in natural sciences and mathematics on the outskirts of Vienna. There will be and Open House held on November 30, 2018. The deadline for submitting applications is January 8, 2019. Details at www.ist.ac.at.

Scholarships in Israel
Foreign Cooperation House offers scholarships for study and research stays in Israel, for a Hebrew language course, and for study, research and lecture stays of academic staff for academic year 2018/2019. Change of office hours - cash register
From Monday, November 12, there is a change of office hours at the cash register. It will now be opened: Mon-Wed-Fri 9: 30-11: 30; 2: 00-3: 00 and Tue, Thu only 2:00 - 3:00.

Pipeline transfer
On November 12, pipes of the heating branch will be discharged in rooms (offices - 1.001, 2.007, 3.006, 4.009, 5.009, 6.001, classrooms and lobby - 1.100, 2.004, 2.005, 3.003, 5.006, 5.007), which is currently in collision with future installations. We expect that the heating limitation will last til Wednesday, November 14, 2018.

On November 13, disconnection of the heating pipes (during the day) and subsequent drilling of perforations into the concrete ceiling (until 6.30) will take place. If the core drilling is successful, the contractor will begin drilling work on the 4th floor in a vertical reinforced concrete structure.

Limitation of parking in underground garages
On November 14, from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., parking will be restricted at designated parking spaces due to the implementation of low-voltage wiring to the building roof. Due to the hard work, we ask users of the underground garages not only to respect the restrictions, but also not to park out of the marked parking spaces. Scheme of restrictions is here.

Gold and diamond graduation
Gold graduation ceremony will be held at the Faculty´s premises on November 16th. On the same day, honorary diplomas will also be presented to diamond graduates. The event will take place in the auditorium (2.001) from 10:30. Those interested in meeting the graduates are cordially invited!

Competition for the best design of New Year's card.
Dean of the Faculty of Science Martin Kubala has announced a competition for the best design of New Year's card. The competition must be the author's own design. It may be painted, drawn, modeled, or otherwise artistically created. However, it must be transferable to electronic form for the purpose of printing. Designs must also be in accordance with UP visual style and include UP visual elements. The best designer receives financial compensation of CZK 3,000 to 5,000 and a 3-day voucher for two people at the Faculty´s recreation facility in Karlov. Please send the designs by November 13, 23:59 ideally in electronic form to the following e-mail address: magdalena.ondrusakova@upol.cz, by post or bring it to Magdaléna Ondrušáková after previous arrangement.

GIS Day
GIS Day is a major event where users of geographic information systems open their facilities to schools, colleagues, and the general public to show specific applications created by this important technology. This year, after the end of the lecture, there will be about 30 minutes of field action with GPS technology! GIS Day takes place on November 14 at 8:00. More information can be found here.
