Acknowledgement for applying for GAČR competition

Our fundamental mission is education and research, and project implementation plays an irreplaceable role in its fulfillment. Through our faculty, 52 applications have been submitted to GAČR competition, other projects have been submitted through other institutions, and UP is a co-administrator," said Karel Lemr, Vice-Dean for Science and Research.

"Czech Head" Competition
Czech scientists, designers and gifted students can nominate their work to the 17th year of the Czech Head Competition by June 30^th. Awards are announced in the following categories:

• National Award of the Government of the Czech Republic for Lifetime Achievement in the Scientific Field, Financial Reward of CZK 1,000,000.
• Award for discovery in the field of basic or applied research or technological innovation taking into account the prospects of usability in practice, financial compensation of CZK 250,000.
• Industrie Award for the most significant technological or product innovation made in the Czech Republic in the last few years.
• Doctorandus Award for Technical Sciences for the best work of a Ph.D. student in the field of technical sciences, financial reward of CZK 50,000.
• Doctorandus Award for Natural Sciences for the best work of a doctoral student in the field of natural sciences, financial compensation of CZK 50,000.

Workshop
The Technology Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is organizing a workshop for applicants interested in MSCA grants entitled "How to write a competitive proposal for Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships?" The workshop will take place on May 22 - 23, 2018 at TC AV CR, Ve Struhách 27, Prague 6.

Formally closing studies before SZZ / defense
We would like to notify students who plan to take Final state examination or defend their thesis in May / June 2018, to close their studies at the Study department at least three weeks prior to the date of the exam or defense.

Check registration of Final state examination subjects in STAG
We ask students who plan to take their Final state exam or defend their thesis this academic year to check the registration of Final state examination subjects / defense in STAG. Should these subjects not be registered in STAG, the dates of possible examination or defense will not be accessible to you.

Recognition of subjects from the pedagogical minimum (lifelong learning)
We would like to notify students of the follow-up single-subject studies who have completed the pedagogical minimum in their main studies, and in this academic year they will graduate, of the necessity of transferring subjects of the pedagogical minimum from the full-time study to life-long education. You can apply for the transfer of courses via classical application (download form on the faculty website) - not in the form of an electronic application. Send the application to the study department to Ms. Karásková.

Doctoral studies
Graduation ceremonies of doctoral students will take place in the first half of June. The students will be informed by e-mail about the exact date.

Student Scientific Competition for the Dean's Award
We would like to remind our students of the opportunity to win an extraordinary scholarship, as well as valuable prizes in the student competition for Dean´s Award. All students of our Faculty who are properly enrolled in the Mathematics and Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Ecology, Earth Sciences and Didactics of Natural Sciences may enter the competition. Registration is open until April 24 online. Scientific papers must be submitted by April 30, the competition will take place on May 3. Detailed information and application form is available here.

The Embassy of Japan in Prague has announced the offer of scholarships starting in 2019.

• Postgraduate scholarships of 18-24 months
• Scholarships to complete a degree at a university in Japan

Science and Research Fair
Destroying myths - under this motto, a traditional Science and Research Fair will take place on Friday and Saturday 15^th and 16^th June. Come visit the Faculty of Science between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm and the Stronghold of Knowledge between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm on Friday, and on Saturday, to the Stronghold of Knowledge between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. Those interested in having an interactive science stands can now subscribe to magdalena.ondrusakova@upol.cz (main building organization) or jitka.dolezalova@upol.cz (for stands at Stronghold of Knowledge).

University Cafeteria under reconstruction
For several months, the University cafeteria on 17.listopadu will be closed down due to an extensive reconstruction. The last day to enjoy a meal at the cafeteria is April 27. The premises will be closed until September 17, when the renovated canteen will be reopened. During the reconstruction, students can use other university meals (Šmeralova, Křížkovského, Neředín and Holice), which will continue to work regularly. Instead of the traditional eight meals, there will be a choice of three types of meals a day. The main cash desk of the cafeteria has been moved to Šmeralova dormitory to the office of the Head of the dormitory.

Summer language course
The Foreign Languages Department organizes a summer language course for the staff and Ph.D. students from July 9 - 13, at the Vítkov - Podhradí Training and Recreation Facility. The price is 3 750 CZK and includes accommodation and full board. Binding applications must be sent to lucie.vankova@upol.cz by May 7. By May 10, you need to pay a deposit of CZK 1,000 in office 6.029.

Best Birthday Cards
Dean of the Faculty of Science announces the Best Birthday Card Competition. The students and employees of UP as well as graduates of the Faculty of Science can compete with their proposals. The best designer receives a financial reward of 3,000-5,000 CZK and a 3-day voucher for two persons in the faculty recreation facility in Karlov. You can send your proposals by June 15,  either electronically at magdalena.ondrusakova@upol.cz, by mail or by prior arrangement personally Mgr. Science and Technology week
We invite all workplaces the opportunity to participate in the Week of Science and Technology organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, which includes lectures, exhibitions, open house, documentaries, workshops, scientific cafes and many other activities across all disciplines in the whole country. The event will take place from November 5-11, 2018, the central theme of this year's edition is the development of Czech science in the background of the historical events between 1918-2018. The morning program is aimed at high school students, the afternoon and evening events are attended by the general public. Your preliminary interest in participating in the event program should be sent to magdalena.ondrusakova@upol.cz by May 4.
