Introductory word
Dear colleagues,
we are presenting the last issue of Newsletter before summer holiday. I would therefore like to thank you all for your everyday efforts in transferring knowledge to students, for your diligent research work and uncountable activities in promoting natural sciences. The Faculty is a complex organism whose functioning depends also on thorough work of administrative and technical workers. Also to them, I would like to express my gratitude. I believe that even in the future we will be able to stay on the right track to achieve a common goal which is high quality education and honest scientific work. I wish you all a great summer, enough rest and opportunities to gain energy for the upcoming academic year.

Czech-French research projects
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has launched a call for proposals for joint Czech-French research projects with implementation in 2020-2021. INTERACTION
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has announced a public tender in research, development and innovation of the INTER-ACTION sub-program (2019LTAIN) with the purpose of carrying out international relations in research and development with focus on Czech-Indian cooperation. Fulbright scholarships
We would like to draw your attention to the Fulbright scholarships as a possibility of long-term research stays connected to Czech sciences in USA and at American universities in the Czech Republic. Typically, scholarships cover living expenses, return tickets, and health insurance, or other costs. The basic prerequisites for applying for scholarship in any of our programs are Czech citizenship, permanent residence in the Czech Republic and a very good knowledge of English.

Scholarship stays in Germany
German Federal Environmental Foundation - DBU (www.dbu.de) offers scholarships in the Federal Republic of Germany to young environmental researchers up to 3 years after graduation.
The scholarship program supports 6 - 12 month stays at German professional workplaces - at universities, in companies, research institutes, NGOs, authorities, etc. Location of a scholarship stay, can be chosen by applicants themselves or provided by DBU according to the applicant's professional interest. Applicants will be interviewed in the second half of September 2019. As a rule, the stay begins in February of the following year and the scholarship holder receives a monthly scholarship of € 1250. The scholarship stay begins in Osnabrück with a 4-week intensive German language course, which takes place in small international groups according the level of their language skills. Application can be submitted in German or English. The deadline for submitting applications is August 1, 2019. Scholarships in Serbia
University of Kragujevac announces a call for scholarships for postdoctoral researchers from foreign universities for the academic year 2019/2020. A scholarship totalling 1000 EUR per month can be awarded for minimum period of one month to max. three months. For more details and requirements, please, see the attached file. Office hours of the study department during summer months
From July 1-4 and August 5-9 the study department will be closed. On the remaining days, i.e. July 8 - August 23, the opening hours are as follows:
Monday 9:00 - 11:00 and 1:30 - 2:30

Wednesday closed

Graduation ceremonies
The graduation ceremony of graduates of Bachelor and Master degree programs will take place on June 24-28 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Science, 17. listopadu 1192/12, Olomouc (2nd floor). Students are asked to confirm their attendance by e-mail. The exact schedule will be published in the second half of June. Enrollment into following year of study
Registration and enrollment certificates will not be submitted for enrollment of students in the higher years of Bachelor and Master degree programs. The study duties for academic year 2018/2019 must be completed by September 5. By this date the results must also be recorded in STAG. After September 5, 2019, credits / exams / colloquiums are no longer accepted for ac. year 2018/2019, nor may the results be recorded in STAG. Students are required to check the entry of the results in STAG by the date specified above.
Extension of studies
Students of the third year of Bachelor studies and the second year of the follow-up Master studies who will not fulfill all study obligations in this academic year, i.e. they will not have a closed year before final state examination / thesis defense by September 5, 2019 - must submit an application for extension of study at the Study Department.

Student evaluation in doctoral studies
We ask PhD students to submit evaluation for 2018/2019 academic year by June 30, 2019. The assessment must be signed by the student as well as his/her supervisor and must include a written statement from the supervisor on whether he / she recommends the student´s advancing to the following year. Even after submitting the evaluation, the student can complete subjects enrolled in Stag by September 5, 2019. After September 5, 2019, compliance with the conditions for proceeding to the next year will be checked.
At the same time, students of fourth and higher years of study will submit their application to extend their studies. The application must also include comments and signature of the supervisor.
Seznamovák UP
This year, the STUDENTLIFE association is organizing the eighth year of the successful event called "Seznamovák of Palacký University". It is a five-day stay before the beginning of the semester, in which the enrolled students learn not only a lot of information and tips from experienced instructors who are students or graduates of Palacký University, but also have the opportunity to play various sports and participate in many teambuilding activities. From July 1 to 4, the cash register will be closed due to holiday.
Opening hours of summer catering facilities
The spaghetti bistro on the 6th floor of the main faculty building will be closed in July and August. Fresh up bistro on the ground floor will be open from 07:30 to 2:30.
The opening hours of receptions of faculty buildings
Gatehouses and reception desks in faculty buildings on 17. listopadu and Holice will run in standard mode. From July 1 to August 23, the SLO gatehouse will only be open from 07:00 to 3:30. The VLD gatehouse will be open from July 1 to August 30 from 07:00 to 3:00.

Best birthday card competition
The Dean of the Faculty of Science announces a competition for the best design of a Birthday card. UP employees and students can compete with their designs. The author of the best card will receive a financial reward of CZK 3,000 - 5,000 and a voucher for a three-day stay for two in the faculty recreational facility in Karlov. Lecturing of lifelong education courses
We would like to invite you to lead lifelong learning courses at the Faculty of Science. At the moment, the Lifelong Learning Program for the winter semester of the 2019/2020 academic year (from mid-September to November 2019) is being prepared. Lifelong Learning is a part of further education of UP employees, supports pedagogical activities, includes innovative didactic or pedagogical courses that help teachers in teaching and lead to the development of teaching excellence at UP. This activity is also an integral part of quality assessment, which is why it certainly makes sense to support it.
Basic information for those interested in lecturing courses:
• It is necessary to discuss the intention and implementation of the teaching with the supervisor (head of the workplace).
• Special interest courses will be preferred.
• The lecturer will receive a reward with regard to the extent of teaching and financial possibilities (approximately CZK 400/45 minutes of teaching & time spent preparing).
• Material consumption can also be reimbursed from the lifelong learning source.
• Courses will be held twice per academic year, usually a one-off lesson on a working day in the morning with a range of about 3-5 hours.
If you are interested, please report your general interest by June 18 to Martina Karásková from the study department (martina.karaskova@upol.cz), who helps to organize this activity at the Faculty of Science.
Josef Vavroušek Award
The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University announces the 24th year of the Josef Vavroušek Award for Human Values and Problems of Civilization Development. The competition is open to students, doctoral students and young Czech and Slovak university graduates under 35 years of age. Contest topics and contest conditions can be found here. The deadline for submitting work is Friday 12 July 2019 at 12:00.
