Dear colleagues, dear students,

we would like to invite you to the Faculty Ball which will take place on Saturday, February 16, from 7 pm in Clarion Congress Hotel Olomouc. Cloakroom, refreshments and access to the venue will be available from 6:30 pm. The evening will be hosted by Jan Smetana, sports commentator and reporter of Czech Television. Music will be played by Jamr's and traditional ExStres. Participants of the Ball may look forward to a rich raffle. Redeemable tickets can be purchased in the main building of the faculty in the Department of External and Internal Affairs, at the Fortress of Knowledge and at UPoint on Horní Náměstí. Information touch panel
The Study department has provided a contact information panel at its premises for students and visitors, including an interactive map, which facilitates the search for basic information about foreign partner universities of the Faculty of Science. Registering subjects for Summer semester 2018/2019
Registration of courses for the summer semester of academic year 2018/2019 for Bachelor's, Follow-up Master's and Doctoral study programs for students of the Faculty of Science takes place from January 15 to February 17, 2019. Graduation ceremony
We ask graduates who successfully completed their studies by final state examination in January and February to apply for a graduation ceremony at their study referent. These will take place from June 24-28. The exact schedule will be posted on the faculty web site in the second half of June. You can pick up the confirmation of completing studies at the Study Department. Here you can also collect your diplomas at the end of March if you do not want to take part in the graduation ceremony.

Scholarship applications
You must submit applications for regular scholarships until the end of the academic year, i.e. August 2019, not until December 2019. This is due to the fact that STAG works with academic years, not calendar ones; some students finish their studies during the application process; the amounts of scholarships change etc. For September 2019, submit new requests.

Czechitas Competition
Non-profit organization Czechitas draws attention to the third year of the Czechitas Awards. A competition for the Best Female Bachelor Thesis in IT is open to all graduates who have successfully defended bachelor theses related to IT in the last year (i.e. 12 months before the application deadline - February 22, 2019). The aim of the competition is to support talented girls in IT, help them realize their projects with the support of experts, and at the same time show the public the interesting topics women are dealing with. Language courses
With the new semester approaching, we would like to invite you again to language courses for staff and students of the doctoral study program. As every year, the Department of Foreign Languages offers a number of courses. More information here.

Scholarship stays
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic would like to draw your attention to the upcoming deadlines for submitting applications for scholarships based on international treaties.

Slovakia offers 5 scholarships in category Study stays for students of master study programs and 5 scholarships in category Study stays for students of doctoral study programs. Interested candidates shall deliver the required documents by February 22, 2019 to the headquarters of the Academic Information Agency (House of Foreign Cooperation, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Praha 1). Estonia offers scholarships for summer courses of Estonian language and culture and other courses in English held at Estonian universities. Applicants may submit their applications directly to Archimedes Foundation by March 19.

Scholarships in Bavaria
Czech-Bavarian University Agency offers scholarships for summer schools and German courses at Bavarian universities. Scholarship covers the tuition fee for a student, teacher or scientist of a public university in the Czech Republic attending a language or an expert course (summer / winter school) at a public university in Bavaria. If the accommodation is not included in the course fee, an accommodation allowance of up to EUR 400 is available. In the case of an application for a scholarship for a German course, there is an assumed knowledge of the language at level B1.

Application for the selected professional or language course should be sent by the participant directly to the chosen university. At the same time, it is necessary to send all documents either by post to Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur, Universitätsstr. 31, Regensburg, or via e-mail to sekretariat@btha.de. The deadline for submitting applications is April 1, 2019. More information here.

Tax return forms
We would like to remind all employees who have not yet been able to sign their tax declaration in 2019 that the last option is 8. 2. - 15. 2. (including). The same deadline applies for delivery of documents for the annual settlement in 2018. These issues can be handled in Office 6.001 at the Dean's Office during the period: Mon-Fri 7:30 to 11:00 and 12:30 to 3:00. The remaining tax declarations of foreigners will be dealt with separately.

Rentals of Faculty premises
Agenda of space rentals to external parties, reservation of rooms for internal purposes (apart from teaching activities), organizing the course of rentals and their invoicing will be covered by Marek Otava, marek.otava@upol.cz, tel. 585 634 023, (Room No. 2.002 at the Main building of Faculty of Science) instead of Mgr. Lucie Matějíčková, who is leaving for her maternity leave.

Seminar
Seminar for Applicants of Current Call in Priority Axis 3 Training and Qualifications within the Cross-border Cooperation Program with Poland - Interreg V-A Czech Republic - Poland will take place on February 28 at 10:00 at the Municipal Office in Glucholazy. It is necessary to register for this event by 25 February at e-mail: alice.navratilova@olkraj.cz. 

Donate blood with the Rector
Within the Academic Week (February 18 - 24), another traditional challenge called Donate blood with the Rector aka Blue is good! All student and employee donors receive a small gift package from UPoint and the Olomouc University Hospital after submitting an ISIC or employee card. All information about whether you are a suitable donor can be found here. Please be sure to study the conditions properly and avoid any unnecessary visits of the hospital. Crytur Award
Crytur (www.crytur.cz) announces the sixth year of the CRYTUR Award for Best Diploma Thesis in Materials Science. A diploma thesis dealing with material science, completed in the academic year 2018/2019 with the expected date of defense in the period from July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019, can be submitted. Deadline for applications is May 15, 2019 (submission of DT can be postponed until 31 May 2019). The paper must be written in Czech, Slovak or English at one of the Czech or Slovak universities. UP Publishing house
On February 1, 2019, Mr. Aleš Prstek was appointed a new Director of Palacký University Publishing House. He was elected on the basis of an open selection procedure. He will replace a long-time director of VUP Mrs. Hana Dziková.
