Dear colleagues, dear students,
At its last meeting, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science took note of the submitted intention of the Dean Martin Kubala to appoint Vice-Deans for the period 2022 – 2026. The Vice-Dean for International Affairs and Dean’s Statutory Representative Miloslav Dušek, the Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies Ondřej Bábek and the Vice-Dean for Study, Education and Social Matters Jan Říha remain in their positions of Vice-Deans.
Jan Hlaváč from the Department of Organic Chemistry became the new Vice-Dean for Science and Research, Ota Blahoušek from the Laboratory of Growth Regulators – the joint workplace of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc and the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences – is now the Vice-Dean for External Relations, and Jan Petr from the Department of Analytical Chemistry became the Vice-Dean for Projects. Science and Research
Entering results into OBD
Decisive data for the division of the contribution for the development of the research organization onto the faculty workplaces for 2022 in the OBD database can be entered only until February 15 by 24:00. The results entered later will not be taken into account when creating the budget for 2022. The results must be entered continuously and carefully (e.g. the surnames of the Czech co-authors should be stated with diacritics together with the first name, link to the full text of the article must be provided and not just an abstract etc.). The completeness and accuracy of the records in the RIV is reflected in the image of the entire university.
Ministry of the Environment – grants for research organizations focusing on water in the landscape
A new programming period of the Operational Program Environment (OPE) 2021 – 2027 will be launched this year. The call, which will include a specific objective 1.3., focused on adaptation to climate change, including measures related to water in the landscape, should be announced in 2.Q-3.Q. 2022 Detailed conditions, including the Rules for Applicants and Beneficiaries, can be found on this website (in Czech). International and non-university affairs
Scholarship Program of the German Federal Environmental Foundation for Central and Eastern Europe (MOE-Austauschstipendienprogramm der DBU)
Every year, the German Federal Environmental Foundation - DBU (www.dbu.de) awards scholarships for qualified university graduates in Central and Eastern Europe that are focused on studying various areas of environmental design and protection. From 2020, the application can be submitted in two terms – always on September 5 and March 5. To ensure the required level of knowledge of the German language, the scholarship stay begins with a 4-week intensive language course provided by the DBU and takes place in small international groups in Osnabrück. Scholarship amount: 1250 € per month. Current dates, information and forms can be found here.

Study affairs
Fischer scholarship holder's seminar
Vice-Dean for International Relations prof. Dušek, cordially invites you to the seminar for Fischer scholars. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 8, at 9:00 a.m. in the Big Conference Room, Dean's Office (room 6.014) on the 6th floor of the Faculty of Science. The attendance of the Fischer scholarship holders and their supervisors is requested, however, all the other faculty employees and students are welcome too.
Evaluation of courses
Give us feedback for the winter semester! One of the main tools for evaluating the quality of the educational process is the evaluation of courses. Until February 14, 2022, it is possible to evaluate the quality of teaching at www.eval.upol.cz and thus give feedback to the teacher, the head of the department and the management of the faculty. They all can continuously improve the quality of teaching thanks to the information obtained during the evaluation. Feedback is important not only for improving pedagogical activities, but also contributes to open communication at the faculty and to improving education.

UP Endowment Fund call
For the seventh time, students have a chance to get support for their science or art project. The UP Endowment Fund offers a talented young scientists and artists a unique opportunity to test their ideas in practice, visit a workplace abroad or meet famous personalities in the field. It is possible to apply for support from February 7 to March 14, 2022. The student can receive up to CZK 200,000 for the project, while the Board of Directors of the Endowment Fund decides on the amount of the contribution and chooses the project which will receive the support.

Love is science
The two-day program entitled “Love is Science” will be offered on February 12 and 13, 2022 at the Fort Science, an interactive science center of the Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc. The organizers have prepared activities that will entertain not only lovers but also whole families. You can make your own perfume and origami, try chemical experiments, thermal cameras or take a science quiz. There will also be animated Czech films for children, which were part of the Academia Film Olomouc festival.
UP Academic Week
Palacký University Academic Week commemorates the re-establishment of Palacký University Olomouc in 1946, when the bells of all Olomouc churches rang out on 21 February in honour of this event. The University regularly organises a number of cultural, scientific and social activities during this time, to which the public is also invited. As part of this week the 11th annual Donate Blood with the Rector challenge will take place. Registration and more information can be found at www.daruj.upol.cz/en or on Facebook. The event will be launched on Monday, February 14 at 7:50 a.m. at the Transfusion Department of Olomouc University Hospital with the participation of Rector Martin Procházka, Vice-Rector Vít Procházka, and President of the Czech Red Cross Marek Jukl.
