Dean's Award for authors of prestigious scientific publications

The Dean of the Faculty of Science will award the authors and author groups of teaching and popular science texts, monographs and original scientific publications for 2023. Submitting the publication will be possible from 15 September 2023. The publication (publication set) is submitted by the author via a web form on the Portal. You can find the application form here (in Czech). If the publication is already listed in OBD, it is possible to use automatic data loading from OBD when filling it out. The printed and signed application must be delivered by internal mail to the Department of Science and Research of the UP Faculty of Science to Bc. Barbora Krudencová no later than 25 October 2023.

Submitted publications must meet the following conditions:

• The scientific journal where the paper is published is in the 90th percentile and above in the given subject class according to the Web of Science.
• The proposed scientist is an employee of the Faculty of Science with workload of minimum 50 %, and he/she presents the affiliation of the Faculty of Science as the main workplace.
• The main or corresponding author of a given publication must be an employee of the Faculty of Science.
• The publication was published in print in 2023. Papers published in 2022 can also be submitted if they were not entered in the competition in the previous year.

MEYS – LUABA24

MEYS has announced a call for proposals in the LUABA24 Bilateral Projects Czech Republic - Bavaria, Programme I-E II, sub-programme INTER-ACTION.

The aim of LUABA24 is to select joint applied research projects focusing on the following areas/sub-areas:

1. Computer and Information Sciences
2. Engineering and Technology, specialising in Materials Research, Nanotechnology
3. Social Sciences
4. Humanities and Arts.

The duration of the supported projects is set at 2.5 years.

The competition period for submission of project proposals (applicants' requests for targeted support) begins on 16 September 2023 and ends on 30 November 2023. Faculty deadline: 28 November 2023. MEYS – LUAIZ24

MEYS has announced a call for proposals in the LUAIZ24 Bilateral Projects Czech Republic – State of Israel, Programme I-E II, sub-programme INTER-ACTION.

The LUAIZ24 competition will accept proposals for joint Czech-Israeli projects in the industrial research category (Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 2-4)3 that will lead to technological applicability and development of new products, focusing on one of the following areas/sub-areas:

1. Health and medicine - drug design and development
2. Sustainability and environmental protection - climate change, clean energy, desert research, water
3. Data science - applications of artificial intelligence.

The competition period for submission of project proposals (applications from applicants for special-purpose support) starts on 11 September 2023 and ends on 15 November 2023. The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR)

GA CR is launching a call for projects based on the Lead Agency evaluation principle with an expected start date in 2025. The call concerns projects funded in cooperation with the Polish National Science Centre (NCN) under the Weave initiative. In this call, the Polish NCN acts as Lead Agency, i.e. evaluates the project proposals scientifically, and the GA CR takes over the results of the evaluation process. The competition period started on 15 September 2023.

The Czech part of the application can be submitted until 22 December 2023 at the latest, i.e. 7 days after the official deadline set by the NCN Agency for Polish applicants on 15 December 2023.

In order to complete the administrative steps for submitting the project proposal, it is necessary to deliver by 18 December 2023 the following:

• green request form "košilka" Request for consent to submit a project proposal to the funder), signed by the proposer and the Head of Department/Workplace,
• Brief project information

Horizon Europe – Life Sciences – National Information Day

The aim of the event, organised by the Technology Centre Prague in cooperation with the Czech University of Life Sciences (ČZU), is to highlight new opportunities of the Horizon Europe programme. Speakers will focus on current challenges in the field of life sciences (in particular Cluster 6 – Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment), relevant European partnerships or opportunities offered by the programme to support broadening participation. A successful project coordinator will also share his/her experience. The language of the event will be English and it will take place on 24 October 2023 physically at ČZU. Horizon Europe – UK

On 7 September 2023, the UK and the EU reached an agreement on association with the HE programme. From this date, UK scientists can become a fully associated member for the remaining duration of the programme until 2027.

Horizon Europe – Overview of partner exchanges for the 2024 calls

In September and October 2023, partner exchanges are held to establish contacts for projects prepared for the new Horizon Europe calls in 2024. Most of the calls in Clusters 1 to 6 have a deadline already in February to April 2024. The online exchanges are usually one-day events and are attended by hundreds of international organisations interested in collaborating on projects in a wide range of fields. Even after they are over, you can continue to register and arrange meetings with all registered participants. Some partner exchanges also take place physically or hybridly.

You register for the events for free, create a profile, and then schedule online meetings with other registered participants. You increase your chances of being contacted by other participants by filling out your profile in detail.

Exchanges usually also offer the opportunity to present your plan or idea to a selected call. These are called Pitch Sessions. You can present yourself live to potential partners and coordinators in 3-5 minutes.

DZS – DigiEduHack 2023

The next edition of DigiEduHack will take place at the beginning of November. Registration is still open to all organisations (higher education institutions, schools at all levels, innovation centres, research laboratories, etc.) interested in organising a local 24-hour hackathon focusing on a specific challenge in the field of digitalisation in education. The entire initiative is accompanied by a series of webinars presenting current topics in the field of digitalisation and the initiative itself. Interreg Austria – Czech Republic

The joint secretariat of the Interreg Austria - Czech Republic programme has prepared seminars for applicants interested in submitting a project application under the Interreg Austria-Czech Republic 2021-2027 programme. The current call is open until 30 November 2023. The seminars will focus on familiarisation with the general rules of the programme, priority axes, allocations or project application requirements including mandatory annexes or eligibility of expenditure. Study in Bavaria

The Czech-Bavarian Higher Education Agency invites you to the online event "Study in Bavaria" on Tuesday, 10 October 2023 at 16:00 on the Zoom platform.

During the event (max. 60 min.) you will learn about the study opportunities at universities in Bavaria and the BTHA scholarship offers. Former scholarship holders will also be given space to share their experiences of studying or summer school in Bavaria. The event is open to interested students from all public universities in the Czech Republic. Participation is possible without prior registration here.

Scholarship - Germany

The Czech-Bavarian Higher Education Agency (BTHA) and the Bavarian Centre for Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (BAYHOST) are offering annual scholarships for students and graduates from universities from the Czech Republic. The scholarship is intended to finance a follow-up Master's or Doctoral degree or a longer study stay at a Bavarian public university.

The scholarship is awarded for one academic year and can be extended a maximum of two times subsequently on application (for a total of three years). The scholarship is usually paid in 12 monthly instalments totalling € 11,208 per year (€ 934 per month). Applicants with at least one child can also apply for an increase of € 160 per month.

State doctoral examination and dissertation defense

When submitting your dissertation or application for the state doctoral examination, adhere to the requirements and deadlines listed on the website in the section for Doctoral Study. Keep in mind that it needs to be done at least 3 months in advance.

Foreign PhD students

The foreign doctoral students agenda is now completely in charge of Mrs. Waleria Słowiková (waleria.slowikova@upol.cz) from the international section of the Student Affairs Office. Other English study programmes (Bachelor and Master) as well as foreign internships and mobilities (i.a. within the Erasmus+) fall within the competence of Mrs. Dana Gronychová (dana.gronychova@upol.cz).

Extraordinary scholarships for doctoral students for publishing activities

In 2023, the UP Faculty of Science will award one-time extraordinary scholarships to authors of prestigious publications from among the doctoral students studying in the regular period of study (i.e. students of 1st to 4th year). An extraordinary scholarship for publishing activity will be awarded to doctoral students who, in 2023, report a publication as the first or corresponding author with an affiliation to the Faculty of Science, UP, in a journal registered in the first or second quartile of a given subject category (Q1 or Q2 in Subject Category, SC) according to Journal Citation Reports©. If a journal falls into more than one SC, the SC with the highest percentile will be counted. The publication must have a publication year of 2023 or be accepted for printing before submitting the application. An author can be awarded a scholarship only once for a specific publication. One author may apply for a scholarship for more than one publication.

The printed scholarship applications (use the general request form) should be submitted to Mgr. Waleria Słowiková (in person or through the internal mail) no later than 15 November 2023. Scholarships will be paid out in one lump sum on the following payment date. The amount of the scholarship will depend on the number of applications received and the percentile of the journal's ranking in SC.

The scholarship application should contain:

• the student's name and surname
• e-mail address
• study programme and year of study
• the name, surname and e-mail address of the supervisor, the consent and signature of the supervisor if necessary
• a full citation, including the DOI, of the publication that is subject of the request
• confirmation of acceptance for printing in the case of publications in print
• printed full text (Pre-proof) of the publication.

Construction work

From 16 October to 10 November, construction work will be carried out on the grounds of the Faculty of Science in the Envelopa campus (17 listopadu 12) in order to connect the electric vehicle charging station. We apologize for the restrictions caused. More information in the attachment (in Czech).

All employees with access to underground garages should always state the licence plate number of all vehicles they use for parking. If the employee uses an access card but does not have the car's license plate number registered in the system, the vehicle counting on the board at the garage entrance will not be functional.

Please follow these rules:

• For entry/exit it is necessary to approach the garage gate slowly (ideally 10 km/h and through the middle).
• It is necessary to follow the Rules of Operation of the underground parking garage of the Faculty of Science PrF-B-18/10

• Use an employee card for entry/exit.
• Access will be set only for employees of SLO, VLD and Envelopa buildings (employees with access to underground garages).

Access settings

At the Faculty of Science, there is an option of setting access to individual profiles (card readers) within the Faculty of Science. The requirement for setting the access of a given workplace must always be by an authorized person – the head of the department/workplace or the secretary of the department/workplace.

Holice campus

• Entrance to the premises is allowed only to UP employees with a set access to the employee card, a valid parking card and a registered vehicle registration number.
• Parking is only available to UP employees with a valid parking card in reserved parking spaces on the premises, preferably on the paved parking area of the premises (see attachment); other employees without a parking card may park only in the parking lots in front of the premises.
• Students are not allowed to enter the premises, in individual cases it is possible to request an exception (health reasons, disabled persons, etc.)

Board games

The faculty’s Board game club has started a new semester! Come and play modern board games every Tuesday (18:15) and Thursday (16:30) in the classroom 1.037. There are around 200 games available on site, and if you can't find one, you can also ask for the home stock of the regular game meeting participants, or bring your favourite game yourself and teach it to others. Exhibitions marking the university anniversary

The Regional Museum in Olomouc has prepared two exhibitions for this year's anniversary of Palacký University. Visitors can look forward to unique exhibits, including the original founding charter signed by the Emperor, Baroque portraits of the founders and donors of the University, and original and contemporary sceptres, including one borrowed from the University of Innsbruck in Austria. Both exhibitions, on preparation of which the Palacký University participated, will be on display at the museum from 5 October until 11 February next year. For one month only, i.e. until 5 November 2023, the original founding charter from which the university measures its time will be on display.

New promotional materials

The faculty has new printed promotional materials in English: a faculty brochure and a bookmark. If you are travelling abroad, you can pick up the materials at the International Office (room 1.005) upon previous email arrangement at waleria.slowikova@upol.cz.
