GA ČR – Lead Agency
Czech Science Foundation (GA ČR) announces a call for projects based on the Lead Agency evaluation principle with an expected start date in 2025. The call concerns projects funded in cooperation with the Croatian agency Hrvatska zaklada za znanost (HRZZ) within the Weave initiative. In this call, the Croatian agency HRZZ acts as Lead Agency, i.e. evaluates the project proposals scientifically, and the GA CR takes over the results of the evaluation process.
The Czech part of the application can be submitted until 17 May 2024 at the latest, i.e. 7 days after the official deadline set by the HRZZ for Croatian applicants on 10 May 2024.
The following should be added to the proposal submission:
- by 14 May 2024 – the original of green request form "košilka" (Request for consent to submit a project proposal to the funder), signed by the proposer and the Head of Department/Workplace and Brief project information or a draft of the project proposal by internal mail or in person to DPS, Mgr. Ľubica Korcanová
- by 16 May 2024 – send the final version of the project proposal to lubica.korcanova@upol.cz
The affidavit of eligibility on behalf of Palacký University Olomouc has been submitted.
The project must be set up in the GRIS project proposal application in the call Lead Agency – Partner Organization – 2025. Projects have a maximum duration of three years, GA CR allows a project duration of 24 or 36 months. Detailed information on the call can be found on the GA CR website.
Belgian agency seeks foreign experts for panels
The Belgian agency Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) is looking for international evaluators for its panels, across all fields of basic research. The deadline to apply is 28 April 2024. More information can be found on the FWO website or GA CR website.
Czech-French mobilities
MEYS of the Czech Republic announces a call for applications for grants for the implementation of bilateral research, development and innovation projects between the Czech Republic and France within the framework of the activity Support for mobility of researchers in the framework of international cooperation with the solution period of 2025-2026. The application deadline is 30 May 2024.
International and Non-university Affairs
Mandatory reporting of mobilities
It is the responsibility of every outgoing student to report his/her mobility. Always report your intention to go and the duration of your mobility to Mrs. Dana Gronychová (dana.gronychova@upol.cz) from the International section of the Student Affairs Office.
Information about foreign students who will come for an internship must also be sent to Mrs. Gronychová in advance by the department to which they are to come.
You will also find new information about traineeships, which must also be reported.
Records of foreign guests
It is the responsibility of the department to register foreign guests. If you have international guests visiting your department, please enter their information in the Portal.
Instructions:
- click on "All Applications" in your Portal
- click on the "Guest Admission" tile
- press the "+New" button and fill out the newly opened form.
MOFA Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship
The scholarship is facilitated by the MOFA Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship programme under an inter-university cooperation agreement. UP has up to 11 half-year places available:
- scholarship 20.000 TWD/month
- duration of stay 5 months (after agreement with the university can be shortened to 4 months if necessary)
- accommodation available in the dormitories
- obligation to attend 6h of Chinese lessons per week
- the offer of courses in English is attached

Co-financing of internships abroad
As last year, it is possible to apply for additional funding for student internships abroad if the primary source does not cover all the necessary costs. The completed and signed application form (available in both English and Czech) send either by internal mail to Waleria Slowiková (Student Affairs Office) or by scanning it to waleria.slowikova@upol.cz.
Internships Germany, Chile
MEYS has reopened the call for applications for internships with the international research organisation ESO (European Southern Observatory). The location of the internship is Germany or Chile, the duration is 6 or 12 months, and the scholarship is between EUR 2 500 and EUR 3 000 per month (depending on the intern's education and classification). Students, scientists and engineers working in any of the following fields can apply: astronomy, astrophysics, software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, controlling, optics, operations engineering, project management. The Scholar Foundation
The Scholar Foundation offers financial support to those interested in studying a Master's or Ph.D. programme at foreign universities as well as to students traveling within the inter-university agreements, especially to non-European destinations or prestigious universities in Europe.
The selection process for the academic year 2024/2025 is currently open. Applications can be submitted until the end of April 2024. All information can be found on the Foundation's website.
Brunch for Expat Women in Czech Science
The Czech Academy of Sciences organizes Brunch for Expat Women in Czech Science. As a guest speaker at this event will be Zsófia Csajbók, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, Prague. The Brunch will take place on 7 May 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kapmus Hybernská, Prague. For more information and registration options, please see the attached document.
Fulbright Scholarships
The prestigious Fulbright scholarship programmes funded by the Czech and US governments provide Czech citizens with the opportunity to study, conduct research or teach in the USA. Scholarships usually cover living expenses, return ticket and health insurance, and possibly some other costs (tuition or part of it, purchase of books, etc.).
Applications for individual programmes can be submitted in all disciplines – humanities, natural sciences, and engineering – except MBA, LLM, and clinical medicine. Applications in the field of American Studies and applications focusing on multicultural or interdisciplinary aspects of the subject are welcome.

Student Scientific Competition – Dean's Award
All students of the Faculty of Science are eligible to compete for the extraordinary scholarship and valuable prizes in the ‘Student Scientific Competition – Dean's Award’ in the sections of Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology and Environment, and Earth Sciences. It is also possible to enrol in the poster section. The competition takes place on 2 May 2024 and you can register until 30 April on the website, where you can also find detailed information.
The presentation of the competition works will take place on 2 May 2024 at the faculty's premises on 17. listopadu 12 according to the schedule, which will be published on the website. The presentation part will be divided into sections (Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology and Environment, Earth Sciences, Science Didactics) and these will be further divided into individual categories (Bachelor, Master, PhD), the additional poster session will be joint. It is not necessary to upload the entire work to register for the competition, a shortened version describing mainly the student's own contribution will suffice, or it is possible to upload a scientific publication (article, book chapter, etc.).
Not only the authors of the works and their supervisors, but also other students and employees who want to get acquainted with the interesting works are cordially invited to the award ceremony, which is planned at 4:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Faculty of Science.
The winners will receive scholarships and prizes. These are provided by the Faculty of Science and the partners of the event. All information about the event, including prizes for the winners, is continuously updated on the website. Returnable boxes in the canteen
The Administration of UP Accommodation and dining services (SKM) has heard the demand of boarders and in cooperation with the REkrabička and REkelímek project will offer food for consumption outside the premises of the canteens in returnable boxes. The deposit for the returnable boxes will be CZK 80.

Water supply shutdown
Due to service work on the water supply connection, the water supply will be interrupted for the whole day on Tuesday 16 April 2024 from 8:00 a.m. in the buildings of the Faculty of Science at the following addresses:

Ceremonial opening of the new multi-purpose building in the Botanical Garden
A new multi-purpose building in the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University Olomouc will offer a lecture hall, a winter garden and high-quality social and technical facilities to the academic community and the public. We would like to invite you to its grand opening, which will take place on Wednesday 24 April at 10:00 a.m.

Expanded capacity of the bicycle shed
Due to the lack of parking spaces for bicycles, the capacity of the bike shed (for employees only) in the underground garage has been expanded.

Sports Day
Palacký University's Sports Day will take place on Tuesday 7 May 2024. The rector grants a day off for this day and all physical activities within the Sports Day are free of charge for UP employees and students. Entrepreneurial Head
The Palacký University Science and Technology Park in Olomouc (VTP UP) announces the 15th year of the Entrepreneurial Head competition, the aim of which is to award the best business ideas not only of Palacký University students, but also of aspiring or experienced entrepreneurs from the public. The winner will receive a grand prize of CZK 50,000, advice and consultation with mentors worth CZK 130,000, a year's lease of a workplace in Olomouc's Element Coworking or a 50% discount on a year's office lease. Applications for the competition can be submitted until 20 May 2024.
Academia Film Olomouc
Can memories deceive us? What happens when we entrust our memory to various technologies? What does the DNA of prehistoric times look like and what news from the life of dinosaurs can we learn from the latest research? What secrets does the fungal ecosystem hold? For six days, visitors to the AFO International Festival at Palacký University will be looking for answers to these and other questions. This festival of film and science will take place from 23 to 28 April 2024 in Olomouc. 57 films in three categories are competing for the favour of the expert jury.
Majáles – Student May Festival
The festival spring in the city will again once be enriched by the Student May Festival of Palacký University (Majáles UP). From 6 to 8 May 2024, it will offer a lot of music, film and theatre, the largest showcase of student and non-profit organisations, competitions, talks, exhibitions and workshops for everyone. All this under the subtitle Without Borders on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Czech Republic's accession to the European Union. Every day you can look forward to a different programme in a different location and great concerts by Bára Poláková, Pam Rabbit, Michal Horák or the Slovak DJ duo Malalata.
Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon
The 14th edition of the RunCzech series race, Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon 2024, will start on Saturday 15 June 2024. Runners from all over the country and neighbouring countries will come to discover the beauty of Olomouc and, alongside elite athletes, will set off to conquer the 21 km long course and visit the sports fair Moravia Sport Expo. The race has once again been awarded a quality mark by World Athletics, for which several conditions must be met to guarantee a high standard and comfort for all runners. To ensure this event, we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who will help organize the second largest half marathon in the Czech Republic. Karlov recreation centre
The recreation centre of the Faculty of Science in Karlov pod Pradědem offers free accommodation capacity. Karlov pod Pradědem is one of the most important recreation centres in the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains. It's a great starting point for cycling and hiking trips.
