At the end of November, the introductory workshop for the EnCLOD project, which aims to create a foundation for a digital ecosystem in Olomouc, was organised by experts from the Department of Geoinformatics in Olomouc in cooperation with CityOne. The event, held at the UP Faculty of Science, attracted a wide range of stakeholders from public administration, academia, and the commercial sector.
The EnCLOD project, funded by the Interreg Central Europe programme, is focused on the development of open data through sensor networks. A pilot sensor network for monitoring heat islands and transport has already been installed in Olomouc, the first step towards creating a “digital double” of the city. “The aim is to enable more efficient city management and support decision-making processes based on the data obtained,” said Jaroslav Burian, project leader for Palacký University.
The workshop was divided into several thematic blocks, during which the key concepts and first results of the project were presented. David Bárta from CityOne opened the programme with an introduction to sensor networks, highlighting their potential for improving urban governance and promoting sustainability in the context of the digital economy and green transition.
Karel Macků from the Department of Geoinformatics then presented good practice cases, showing the effective use of data in practice. The programme was concluded by Jaroslav Burian, who presented specific examples of map applications and data analyses that illustrate the possibilities of using data outputs in a real environment.
“The workshop was an opportunity to establish new collaborations and opened up space for discussion on the future development of sensor networks in Olomouc. Participants appreciated the opportunity to share their experiences and identify areas where data can be used effectively,” added Burian.
In the coming years, the EnCLOD project plans to expand the sensor network and create a comprehensive data ecosystem supporting decision-making processes in the areas of transport, the environment, and energy. The data will be available to the public through open platforms, enabling further innovation and strengthening digital skills.
