In the prestigious ranking of the top two percent of the world’s most cited scientists, published by Stanford University in cooperation with Elsevier, UP Faculty of Science experts did very well. The best performers were Jaromír Fiurášek from the Department of Optics, and Miroslav Strnad from the Laboratory of Growth Regulators, a joint workplace of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University and the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The published data show that in the “career long” category (i.e. citation response over the course of a career), among 195,605 scientists, sixteen experts from the Faculty of Science, who have Palacký University affiliation, succeeded. Jaromír Fiurášek from the Department of Optics ranked best, followed by Radim Bělohlávek, Miroslav Strnad, Pavel Pospíšil, Dušan Lazár, Zdeněk Hradil, Radim Filip, Anatolij Dvurečenskij, Zdeněk Dvořák, Aleš Lebeda, Zdeněk Bouchal, Jozef Šamaj, Petr Jančar, Petr Smýkal, Aleš Panáček, and Libor Kvítek.

In the “single year” category (citation response only for the year 2021), seventeen representatives of the Faculty of Science were certainly not lost among the 200,409 scientists. The most successful was Professor Miroslav Strnad from the Laboratory of Growth Regulators, a joint workplace of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University and the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The next best were Pavel Pospíšil, Dušan Lazár, Radim Bělohlávek, Jaromír Fiurášek, Aleš Panáček, Jan Švec, Zdeněk Dvořák, Radim Filip, Petr Smýkal, Jozef Šamaj, Libor Kvítek, Zdeněk Bouchal, Aleš Lebeda, Andrej Pavlovič, Robert Prucek, and Robin Kundrata.

The rankings divide scientists into 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields. The public database provides standardised information on e.g. total citations, citations without self-citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations of articles in different author positions, and a composite indicator (c-score). Career-long data were updated as of the end of 2021, and data for the last year refer to citations received during the calendar year of 2021.
