In 2000, the Holy Trinity Column located in the old town area of Olomouc was inscribed as the tenth in line in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Czech Republic.
This year, Olomouc has been listed among top 10 travel destinations for 2023 according to booking.com which shows that our city has much more to offer besides its breath-taking history and architecture. Out of a hundred thousand inhabitants more than twenty thousand are Palacký University Olomouc students who contribute to the social and cultural life of the city. This so-called capital of Haná region is, therefore, undoubtedly one of the most student friendly cities in the country.
During spring and summer time, blooming city parks and café gardens are dotted with students studying or chatting over a tasty picnic meal or a cup of coffee. Those looking for more privacy are passing by on a rented bicycle on their way to the nearby Poděbrady Lake. When the spring is in its bloom, Olomouc is busy hosting events such as Academia Film Olomouc, May student festival (Majáles) or music festivals. And when winter hits, the streets are filled with Christmas spirit and people set off a mulled wide march to the markets in the city centre.
No matter the rankings and world top lists, for us and our students Olomouc will be a number one 365 days a year.
