Since 1994, an annual lecture in honour of Prof Josef Ludvík Fischer, [B1] the first rector of Palacký University Olomouc after its restoration in 1946, has been held in November. Nominations for the speaker of the 2024 Fischer Lecture can be submitted by 15 May.
Anyone studying or working at UP can submit a proposal for this year’s candidate. The proposal must include a short justification. It should be a prominent Czech or foreign personality from any scientific or academic field.
Proposals should be sent to prorektorkaVaV@upol.cz no later than 15 May 2024. The speaker will be selected by the UP Rector upon the proposal of the relevant university committee. You can take inspiration from the list of personalities who have delivered the Fischer Lecture at UP in the past. In recent years, these have included Šimon Pánek, co-founder and executive director of the humanitarian organisation Člověk v tísni (People in Need), and Dana Drábová, nuclear engineer and chair of the State Office for Nuclear Safety.
