The Silver Medal for Service in the Development of Palacký University was awarded to Prof Jan Andres from the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Applications of Mathematics. Prof Andres received the award, one of the highest at the university, from Rector Jaroslav Miller on the occasion of his birthday.
“I would like to wish you good health and satisfaction in your future endeavours. On behalf of the university, we are very grateful for everything that you have done for the faculty and the university throughout the years,” said Rector Miller, during the congratulatory speech.
Jan Andres, a Faculty of Science alumnus, was the Head of the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Applications of Mathematics for fifteen years, and he also held the position of Vice-Dean for International Relations for nine years. In 2014 he received a Gold Medal for Service in the Development of Palacký University. He is also a member of the UP Scholarly Board.
As a visiting professor, Prof Andres has also cooperated with two American and numerous European universities, e.g. Sapienza University of Rome and the Sorbonne in Paris. He is the author of more than two hundred published academic works, including one monograph and four “handbook” chapters/four commissioned chapters for “festschrifts”. His hobbies include writing essays on philosophy, fine arts and art history.
“Reaching a certain age is definitely a sort of memento, if not an accomplishment of merit. Time flies. However, I very much appreciate the award because I perceive it as recognition of my work for Palacký University. I’m very pleased, because I devote 95 percent of my energy to my work,” said Prof Andres, expressing his thanks.
