Dean's Award for authors of prestigious scientific publications
The Dean of the Faculty of Science will award the authors and author groups of teaching and popular science texts, monographs and original scientific publications for 2024. Submitting the publication will be possible from 16 September 2024. The publication (publication set) is submitted by the author via a web form on the Portal. You can find the application form here (in Czech). If the publication is already listed in OBD, it is possible to use automatic data loading from OBD when filling it out. The printed and signed application must be delivered by internal mail to the Department of Science and Research of the UP Faculty of Science to Bc. Barbora Krudencová no later than 24 October 2024.
Submitted publications must meet the following conditions:
- The scientific publication is in a professional journal with an IF value in the top 10%, including journals that belong to the same subject class (subject class on Web of Science) as the journal in which the publication appeared. The condition must be met for at least one subject class.
- The main or corresponding author is an employee of the UP Faculty of Science with at least 0,5 workload or a student of the FS UP.
- The prize will be awarded to members of the author group who have listed the UP Faculty of Science as their main workplace in the affiliation, i.e. have listed it in the first place.
- The publication was published in 2024. Works published in 2023 can also be submitted, if they were not submitted to the competition in the previous year.
Fulbright scholarship
Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship is intended for study or research at the Master's or Ph.D. level in the United States for all disciplines except clinical medicine and MBA and LLM programs. You can apply for a research stay of 4-9 months until 1 February 2025 and you need to arrange a corresponding letter of invitation from the US. Completion of bachelor's degree at the time of the deadline and good command of English are a prerequisite. Details here.
US Fellows at universities and research institutes
The employees of universities and academic workplaces in the Czech Republic can take advantage in their courses and seminars of lecturers and scientists from the USA who give lectures or conduct research in the Czech Republic for one or two semesters each year as part of the Fulbright program and whose updated list is available on the Fulbright Commission website:
The deadline for applications is 30 September 2024 for stays in 2025, for projects with full funding we ask the US side to submit early, preferably by 27 September 2024.
Rector's Honorary Mention 2024
Authors of professional books from among university employees can apply for the Palacký University Rector's Honorary Mention. As in previous years, the proposals for the award are accepted by the departments of science and research of individual faculties, in case of a university institute, by its director. The deadline is 30 September 2024. More information can be found on the website.
František Palacký Prize
Palacký University regularly awards the František Palacký Prize to personalities who have achieved outstanding results in creative activity in the field of science or culture. Nominate a candidate - it should be a prominent Czech or foreign personality from any field of science or culture. Send your proposal by 15 October 2024 to prorektorkavav@upol.cz; the proposal must include a short justification. Anyone studying or working at UP can propose a candidate. The selection is then made by the relevant university committee, the UP Scholarly Board and the final decision is made by the UP Rector. The awarding of the prize is associated with a financial reward, to which the municipality of Hodslavice, František Palacký's birthplace, and the town of Neratovice, where he lived and which is also his final resting place, also contribute.
International and Non-university Affairs
Mandatory reporting of mobilities
It is the responsibility of every outgoing student to report his/her mobility. Always report your intention to go and the duration of your mobility to Mrs. Dana Gronychová (dana.gronychova@upol.cz) from the International section of the Student Affairs Office. You will also find new information about traineeships, which must be reported as well.
Information about foreign students who will come for an internship must also be sent to Mrs. Gronychová in advance by the department to which they are to come.
Records of foreign guests
It is the responsibility of the department to register foreign guests. If you have international guests visiting your department, please enter their information in the Portal.
Instructions:
- click on "All Applications" in your Portal
- click on the "Guest Admission" tile
- press the "+New" button and fill out the newly opened form.
Mobility scholarship
A student who goes on any mobility abroad for 30 days or more (study stay, research internship, work placement, summer school, etc.), can apply for a scholarship of CZK 5,000 for each mobility. The request must be submitted before departure. This change applies to applications submitted from 1 September 2024, until then the amount of CZK 3 000 applies.
Co-financing of internships abroad
It is possible to apply for additional funding for student internships abroad if the primary source does not cover all the necessary costs. The completed and signed application form (available in both English and Czech) send either by internal mail to Waleria Slowiková (Student Affairs Office) or by scanning it to waleria.slowikova@upol.cz.

Registration of courses in STAG
It is necessary to register for courses in STAG for the academic year 2024/2025 by 30 September 2024. See the Schedule of the Academic Year.

You can print your confirmation of study online directly from your Portal.
Individual study plan of the doctoral students
Students in the first year of the doctoral study programmes have to submit their individual study plan by the end of September 2024 to their Student Affairs Officer. The plan has to be signed by the student, his/her supervisor and the chairman of the Subject-area Board. At the same time, students must enter the dissertation topic in STAG.
Go to „STAG – My study – Thesis topics“, find your topic through the search engine and fill out the necessary data. If it’s not there, add the new topic and fill out all the data. Then check everything with your supervisor if the data are correct. If the supervisor approves, in the section “Approval status“ select „Thesis registration finalized by student“ and save it. Then, on the top of the page click on „Print the document for dissertation registration“, print it, have it signed by the necessary people, and deliver it to your student affairs officer.
State doctoral examination and dissertation defense
When submitting your dissertation or application for the state doctoral examination, adhere to the requirements and deadlines listed on the website in the section for Doctoral Study. Keep in mind that it needs to be done at least 3 months in advance.
Foreign PhD students
The foreign doctoral students agenda is now completely in charge of Mrs. Waleria Słowiková (waleria.slowikova@upol.cz) from the international section of the Student Affairs Office. Other English study programmes (Bachelor and Master) as well as foreign internships and mobilities (i.a. within the Erasmus+) fall within the competence of Mrs. Dana Gronychová (dana.gronychova@upol.cz).
Language courses
The Department of Foreign Languages offers English courses for employees and PhD students and 2 Czech language courses for foreign students and employees of the Faculty of Science in the winter semester 2024/2025. Choose your course here.
Organization and Maintenance
"Rainwater management from the FS UP Olomouc building, 17. listopadu 12"
From September 2024, the second stage of the construction started (in front of the building), which is financed by the European Union from the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic within the National Recovery Plan. This phase will restrict the movement of people in the park and in front of the building (from 17. listopadu street). Please use extra caution when moving around the site.

Employees are reminded that it is necessary to follow the traffic signs in the Envelopa area. It is also necessary to have a UP parking card visibly displayed, as the Olomouc Municipal Police regularly checks compliance with the traffic rules in the area.

Researchers's Night
One evening, dozens of venues across the Czech Republic and a varied programme for children and adults, introducing science in a fun and playful way. The Researcher's Night, which will take place on 27 September 2024, this year takes inspiration from the works of Franz Kafka and chooses Transformation as its main theme. Visitors can expect interactive experiments, fun games and quizzes, exciting screenings and lectures packed with surprising discoveries. All this is completely free of charge.
Health Day
Every year, the Human Resources Management Department of RUP prepares a Health Day for the university employees at the beginning of the academic year. This year, it will take place on Wednesday, 11 September from 10:00 to 14:00 in the courtyard of the Armoury, Biskupské náměstí, and in the premises of the UP Library and the Student Club. Bookings for individual activities will open on Friday 6 October 2024 from 10:00 on the Health Day website, where you will also find a schedule of activities.
Karlov recreation centre
The recreation centre of the Faculty of Science in Karlov pod Pradědem offers free accommodation capacity. The building offers 6 rooms with a total capacity of 20 beds. Employees of the Faculty of Science and their family members are offered a discounted price. MEET UP
The beginning of the academic year traditionally belongs to MEET UP. This year's event will take place on Tuesday 24 September in the charming surroundings of the Josef Jařab Embankment (Olomouc's waterfront). The afternoon and evening programme will offer performances by buskers, rockers and dulcimers, alongside stands of student associations and university organisations, there will be a gastronomic zone and a boat ride and silent disco. The programme will also include the presentation of the winners of the 2024 Volunteer Awards. For more information, visit www.meetup.upol.cz.
MEET UP will also include a Sustainable University Bazaar. Get your home in order as the semester begins and bring us clothes, books and study materials, and household items that you no longer use but are still functional and undamaged.
